William Barry

William Barry in San Francisco in 1861, looking as young as ever. He was then playing at McGuire’s Opera House, in that city. Mr. Joseph Proctor resides in Philadelphia. He was lately still playing there his favorite character of ” Jibonanesy ” in Nick of the Woods. Lotta Crabtree rolled with this crew.These were veterans of the Western Theatre circuit. Based mostly in San Francisco they played in each other’s starring vehicles and had a giant repertory of abridged classics and adapted short stories. Whenever a top-tier national star like one of the Booths came to town, they usually convinced him to take a short engagement on a show into the mining camps.
