J. H. Matthewson carried a union flag through town with two drummer boys looking for volunteers. Secessionists jumped the three and destroyed the drums. Other unionists joined the fight and a crowd joined cheering on the beating back of the secessionist assholes, they rallied to city hall where a former Justice of the California Supreme Court gave a stirring address. It had been a set up. — March 25, 1862
