Old 62 Bar

December 9, 2009 by fredgooltz

Address 62 So. C Street, this building had two commercial spaces. Moses Wertheimer a German Jewish immigrant owner of a San Francisco cigar factory was in the south half of the building in 1868. It operated until the mid 1890โ€™s. North half was a saloon from 1864 to early 1900โ€™s. In 1930โ€™s C. Pucinelli merged halves and reopened as the Old 62 Bar.

This was a dingy one-bit saloon with a cat-house through the back door.  Unlike most brothels where you didn’t pay for sex, instead, you paid for champagne that was hugely overpriced.  It was genteel.

Location. 39ยฐ 18.538โ€ฒ N, 119ยฐ 39.011โ€ฒ W. At the intersection of C Street (Nevada Route 341) and Washington Street, on the right when traveling south on C Street. Click for map. 290 C Street, Virginia City NV 89440, United States of America.
