Robert E. Lee again faces Ulysses S. Grant. C: 52,000 vs U: 100,000 and though Grant again loses way more men U: 18,399 to C: 13,421 and the battle is inconclusive, Lee is shocked by how Grant won’t surrender. 5/8/1864 5/21/1864
