Sarah Stark came back to town and Nellie Brown, realizing her time of leading roles was up, now that the boss’ wife was back – up and quit. She took a coach to SF.

Stark’s version of Ingomar; or, The Greek Maiden was a 5 act tragedy from the German about a Barbarian who abducted a maiden who had given herself as a sacrifice to save her father’s life. Comstock Residents Mr. and Mrs. Fairbanks also acted with them at times.

Stark was a trained elocutionist and recited many epic poems and readings like The Battle of Bunker Hill. Nobody wanted to hear war stories though. — December 25, 1861 —
